Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; Iranian and Iraqi children have emphasized the peace and friendship between the two countries during a ceremony held to mark the anniversary of the Iraq-Iran war.
Kids from both countries gathered aboard a ship on Arvand River on the Iran-Iraq border and released doves in the air as a symbol of peace between the two nations.
The children were accompanied by a group of Iranian cineastes and the Iraqi Charge D'affaires to Iran Hamed Abbas, Fars News Agency reported.
“Friendship helps countries to develop and we are very happy that third world countries are heading towards progress,” Abbas said during the ceremony.
Masoumeh Abad, a member of the Tehran City Council also expressed her joy at the program saying that “this is a good start to forget all the pain and hardships caused by the war.”
The war Iraq imposed on Iran lasted from September 1980 to August 1988, resulted in the death of about half a million Iraqi and Iranian soldiers and left thousands of civilians dead and injured.
