Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; LAHORE: Eidul Fitr was celebrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.
The KP government had earlier announced that Eid would be celebrated across the province a day ahead of the rest of the country after clerics in Peshawar claimed they had sufficient evidence that the moon had been sighted.
“Our ulema made a decision and the government will ensure its implementation,” said Awami National Party Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, while talking to reporters outside Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, where the local clerics announced the decision.
In addition to Peshawar, Eid was celebrated in Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts and most tribal agencies.
However, in Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Chitral, Shangla and Lower and Upper Dir districts, people ignored the KP government’s announcement and decided to celebrate Eid along with the rest of the country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, KP Assembly Speaker Karamatullah Khan Chagharmati, senior ministers Bashir Bilour and Rahimdad Khan offered Eid prayers at the Governor’s House.
The largest Eid congregation in Peshawar was held at the central Eidgah where Federal Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, members of the provincial assembly, government officials and a large number of people offered Eid prayers. In Balochistan, people in Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah and Muslim Bagh also celebrated Eid.
