ABNA24 - A group of Iranian psychologists warn their American colleagues that US President Donald Trump's behavior—including narcissism, impulsivity, delusional thoughts, and antisocial traits—points to serious psychological and personality disorders, and that without any mechanism to assess a leader's mental health, such instability endangers global peace.
The full letter is as follows:In the name of God Open letter from Iranian psychologists to American colleagues,Dear colleagues,We, a group of Iranian psychologists, have prepared this letter with the hope of exchanging scientific prospective and strengthening professional collaborations, to reflect on the social and professional responsibilities of the global psychology community in the current critical conditions. In the present era, where the world is under-going astonishing transformations and the media has become a direct bridge among nations, our responsibility as mental health practitioners has taken a new path. The psychological community in Iran, deeply committed to its fundamental professional principles, intends to share its reflections and concerns regarding the role of psychology to maintain global peace and stability with you. We believe that psychology, through a deep understanding of human behavior, motivations, and mental process, could play a role in preventing crisis and healing the wounds caused by struggles. Numerous studies have shown that the psychological stability of leaders has a direct impact on major decisions regarding the world and consequently on the mental health of the citizens and global peace.
Given the importance of the United State' role in the production of science and the illegal actions and interventions of American leaders in the social – political issues of other countries and various facets of people lives, we would like you to determine whether there is a specific mechanism to assess and be assured of the psychological stability and mental health of the USA president. The speech and behavioral signs of the current president of the USA, such as hostile rhetoric, extreme attention-seeking trait, lack of empathy and narcissism, impulsivity and delusional thoughts, disconnection from the reality, disregarding other’s rights, threat and insult other nations, contradictions and anti-social and inhuman behavior raise serious concerns about his potential psychological and personality disorders such as narcissism, histrionic and delusional personality. These behaviors, in the name of “make America great again” have imposed significant costs on other nations and intensified anxiety, fear, and hostility toward your country in the world.
He (Donald Trump) is not bounded by any rules and like a psychopath, has led the world into a pit of fire and destruction. The USA has manifested a new form of trauma through continues bombing and assassinations in the west Asia region which will have a long-lasting physical and psychological consequences. The people of Iraq have not yet recovered from the psychological suffering caused by the American massacres in their country, and now these actions are being carried away in Iran. The aggression that has been imposed on our country in the past month, beginning with the martyrdom of 168 elementary students and the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, has created suffering and pressure on the people which is a clear example that conflicts with the ideals of the global psychological community.We believe that regardless of geographical borders, we share a common responsibility to withhold the mental health of humanity and contribute to global peace and justice. We hope this letter will initiate a constructive discussion between psychologists in Iran and the United state of America. We believe that scientifically examining these behavioral patterns can lead to a deeper understanding of the consequences of such destructive behaviors that disrupt global mental health and help present their psychological repercussion.
