Qom Seminary Scholars Condemn Persecution of Shias, 'Humiliating Servitude' of Persian Gulf Rulers

Iran's Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom has issued a scathing condemnation of the treatment of Shia Muslims in Persian Gulf littoral states, accusing regional rulers of bowing to the "Global Arrogance" and targeting believers for practicing their religious rituals.

ABNA24 - Iran's Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom has issued a scathing condemnation of the treatment of Shia Muslims in Persian Gulf littoral states, accusing regional rulers of bowing to the "Global Arrogance" and targeting believers for practicing their religious rituals.

In a strongly-worded statement, the influential clerical body questioned the logic behind the crackdown on Shia communities in countries like Kuwait and Bahrain, asking how long the "humiliating servitude" of these rulers to the United States and the Zionist regime would continue.

Ritual Mourning Met with Torture and Prison

The statement, carried by Hawzah News Agency, expressed deep dismay over reports of harassment and imprisonment of innocent Shias, particularly those mourning the martyrdom of religious leaders. The Society posed a direct rhetorical question to the international community:

"Should Muslims who don the attire of mourning for their slain religious authority and leader, or who affix the Quranic verse 'Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un' (Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we return) to the entrances of their homes, be subjected to torture, imprisonment, and harassment?"

The Society specifically highlighted the deteriorating situation in Bahrain and Kuwait, noting that according to reports, the number of imprisoned women has exceeded 240, while the number of detained men has reached approximately 4,000 innocent believers.

Condemnation of Assaults on Scholars and Mourners

The Qom seminary body pointed to specific cases of abuse, including the alleged torture and killing of individuals in Bahrain and the reported house arrest and harassment of prominent Kuwaiti Shia scholar Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein Maatouq and his family.

"The image of the tortured body of the oppressed and faithful youth, the eulogist of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), Martyr Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi in Bahrain, will not be erased from memories," the statement read, warning that such spilled blood "will bring down the house of the oppressors."

'Trusting the Great Satan'

The Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom further rebuked the governments of the Persian Gulf sheikhdoms for hosting American military bases and what it described as aligning with "vicious Zionists."

"Is humiliating servitude to global arrogance, trust in the Great Satan—America—and complicity with vicious Zionists truly in the interest of these rulers and the countries of the Persian Gulf periphery?" the statement questioned.

The statement concluded by asserting that the global Islamic community would not remain silent in the face of these "crimes" and the desecration of Islamic scholars and sanctities.
