Top Bahraini Cleric Condemns Death of Young Man in Custody, Warns of Consequences of Oppression

A senior Bahraini cleric has strongly condemned the death of a young man in custody, describing it as a result of systematic torture and a manifestation of what he called “global injustice.”

ABNA24 - A senior Bahraini cleric has strongly condemned the death of a young man in custody, describing it as a result of systematic torture and a manifestation of what he called “global injustice.”

Sheikh Isa Qassim, the spiritual leader of Bahrain’s Islamic movement, issued a statement expressing condolences over the death of Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi, who reportedly died under severe torture while in detention.

According to the statement, Mousavi lost his life inside a criminal investigations facility affiliated with Bahrain’s Interior Ministry, where he had allegedly been subjected to brutal treatment.

The statement, published by the Al-Moqawem website, sharply criticized Bahrain’s official policies, claiming that the lives of devout citizens have been devalued in pursuit of political alignment with the United States.

Sheikh Isa Qassim said that, under current policies, a faithful Bahraini citizen “no longer holds even the value of an ant or a mosquito,” alleging that extreme acts of abuse—including torture leading to death—are being carried out with impunity.

He further warned that such acts of violence against individuals like Mousavi amount to service to what he described as “global oppression,” adding that these actions do not go unnoticed in the eyes of God.

“The punishment of God is severe,” the cleric said, warning that the people of Bahrain will not forget the injustice inflicted upon them.

The prominent cleric also extended his condolences to the victim’s family, particularly his father, as well as to the wider community of believers, praying for patience and divine reward for those affected.

Human rights concerns in Bahrain have repeatedly drawn criticism from international observers, particularly over allegations of mistreatment of detainees and restrictions on political dissent. Rights advocates say such incidents highlight the need for transparency, accountability, and adherence to international legal standards.

The latest development is expected to intensify scrutiny of Manama’s human rights record, amid growing calls for independent investigations into alleged abuses inside detention facilities.
