Envoy: Russia has warned US, Israel about targeting Bushehr nuclear power plant

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Russia to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov says that Moscow has warned the US and Israel about any aggression against nuclear facilities namely Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

ABNA24 - The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Russia to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov says that Moscow has warned the US and Israel about any aggression against nuclear facilities namely Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IRNA, Ulyanov said Bushehr nuclear power plant was targeted by missile strikes on two occasions in March 2026.

The explosions occurred at a distance of approximately 200 to 300 meters from the operational nuclear reactor, he added.

It should be noted that the consequences of a strike on such a reactor could be catastrophic, not only within Iran but also beyond its borders, the Russian diplomat warned.

The Russian Federation has carried out a series of diplomatic measures in this regard towards the United States and Israel and has called for refraining from any attack on nuclear power plants, he stated.

Stressing Russia’s close communication with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Ulyanov said after receiving information from us regarding the first attack, the Rafael Grossi quickly expressed concern about the incident.

We hope that decision-makers in the United States and Israel have taken these messages into consideration and that no further attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant will occur, he said.

According to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, the US-Isaeli enemy has attacked the Bushehr nuclear power plant compound twice.

These attacks occurred first on March 17, 2026, and the second time on March 24, with no financial, technical, or human losses reported in either instance, and no damage was inflicted on the plant's various sectors.

However, attacking peaceful nuclear facilities constitutes a clear violation of international regulations and commitments regarding the immunity of these centers from military actions and could have dangerous and irreparable consequences for the security and safety of the region, especially for the Persian Gulf states.

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to international organizations in Vienna had previously warned about the consequences of the enemy's aggression against the country's nuclear facilities and stated that the IAEA must immediately condemn these threats and warn the US about the catastrophic consequences of such a dangerous act.
