ABNA24 - Ground warfare will be far more “dangerous and costly" for the United States, an Iranian army commander warned Thursday, as the administration of President Donald Trump weighs a ground invasion of the country.
Iranian Army Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi on Thursday warned the United States against any ground incursion, saying it will be "more dangerous and costly" for them. “The Iranian Army forces are standing firm and steadfast on the frontlines of defense and they will incapacitate the enemy,” he added.
It comes as the Donald Trump administration is considering dispatching US soldiers to occupy Kharg Island as he looks for a way to achieve some of his key goals and end the war.The Associated Press has reported that more than 1,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division are being deployed to the Middle East, in addition to the deployment of two Marine units that will add about 5,000 Marines and thousands of sailors to the region.Meantime, multiple people familiar with US intelligence announced that Iran has been laying traps and moving additional military personnel and air defenses to Kharg Island in recent weeks in preparation for a possible US operation to take control of the island.According to a report, “Iranian special forces and guerrilla units” are prepared to exert a “painful blow against the Americans” as the war potentially escalates.Meanwhile, US officials and military experts say there would be significant risks involved in such a ground operation, including a large number of US casualties. Iranian military officials have also issued a stark warning to the US, stressing Iran's soil will turn into graveyards for American soldiers in case of an invasion.
The ranking commander also emphasized that every inch of Iran’s territory is protected by vigilant Iranian troops, who are monitoring all enemy movements while standing ready for any scenario.
