In a letter to the UN secretary-general and the president of the Security Council, Iran strongly condemned the “heinous” and “cowardly” assassination of its diplomats in Beirut.
Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, wrote in the letter that in the early hours of Sunday, the Israeli regime carried out a deliberate terrorist attack on the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, assassinating four Iranian diplomats.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly and in the strongest terms possible condemns this heinous and cowardly terrorist act, the assassination of its diplomats in Beirut, Lebanon,” he said.
“Such a blatant violation of international law cannot go unpunished. All perpetrators of this criminal act must be held fully accountable and handed over to justice.”
The envoy added that those responsible for this crime must not be allowed to escape responsibility or enjoy immunity from international criminal liability.
