Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly reacted to the sinking of the Dena destroyer by a US submarine, describing the attack as a catastrophic breach of international law.
On his X account on Thursday, the foreign minister condemned the attack, stating: “The U.S. has perpetrated an atrocity at sea, 2,000 miles away from Iran’s shores.”
He further elaborated: “Frigate Dena, a guest of India's Navy carrying almost 130 sailors, was struck in international waters without warning.”
The minister also warned: “Mark my words: The U.S. will come to bitterly regret precedent it has set.”
The attack was launched without any prior warning. According to official reports, over 80 crew members were killed in the strike.
Analysts note that the joint US-Israeli invasion, which began on February 28, 2026, following the martyrdom of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, disregarded ongoing indirect negotiations. In response, Iran launched precise retaliatory strikes against Israeli positions and US bases, citing its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warned that further escalation will invite a harsher reaction.
