AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has officially designated the naval and air forces of all European Union member states as terrorist organizations, according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
The ministry said the move was taken in direct response to what it called the EU’s “unlawful and unjustified” decision to add the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to its terrorist list.
The European Council had formally placed the IRGC on the EU terrorist list on Thursday, following a political agreement reached by the Foreign Affairs Council on January 29.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry argued that the EU’s designation violated the core principles of the UN Charter, noting that the IRGC is an official branch of Iran’s armed forces.
In retaliation, Iran announced reciprocal measures targeting the naval and air forces of EU countries, citing a 2019 Iranian law mandating countermeasures against any state that supports the U.S. designation of the IRGC.
Based on this principle of reciprocity, Iran declared that the naval and air forces of all EU member states fall under the provisions of this law—including Article 4—and are therefore designated as terrorist organizations.
