AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has rejected a recent allegation claiming that around 30,000 people were killed during the latest foreign-backed unrest in the country.
Baghaei stated on Sunday that the number, circulated in a post on X by Open Source Intel, resembled propaganda tactics used in Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler, who promoted the concept of the “Big Lie” through constant repetition.
He wrote on his own X account, calling the claim a “Hitler-style BIG LIE,” and questioned whether this was the number rioters had intended to kill in Iran’s streets.
Baghaei referred to reports suggesting that foreign-backed rioters had planned to kill large numbers of civilians and then attribute the casualties to the government.
He added that these groups failed in their attempts and are now trying to fabricate such claims through media manipulation.
According to official Iranian government statistics, more than 3,000 people were killed in riots and terrorist incidents across various cities and towns in early January.
The unrest intensified on January 8 and continued for several days, following peaceful demonstrations in bazaars and markets where merchants demanded government action to stop the depreciation of the Iranian rial.
The violence caused significant destruction to both public and private property, including widespread damage to shops, government buildings, and public service facilities.
Iranian officials have asserted that US and Israeli intelligence services were directly involved, providing financial support, training, and media assistance to rioters and armed groups operating on the streets.
