JABALIA municipality warns of severe water crisis in northern Gaza

Jabalia’s municipality in northern Gaza announced it can no longer supply clean water due to fuel shortages and damaged infrastructure caused by Israeli shelling. Residents face severe thirst and water contamination, heightening risks of disease.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The municipality of Jabalia in northern Gaza has warned of an escalating water crisis, stating it can no longer meet residents’ urgent water needs.

In a statement released Monday, the municipality said that civilians are suffering from extreme thirst amid the absence of clean water sources and a sharp increase in displaced populations, placing additional pressure on already collapsed infrastructure.

It added that the water supply system has been crippled by a lack of diesel fuel needed to run wells and pumps, as well as severe damage to generators caused by repeated Israeli attacks.

The statement explained that the limited available water fails to meet the minimum daily requirements of the population and is visibly contaminated due to the lack of proper filtration and sterilization materials.

Jabalia officials warned that contaminated water poses a serious risk of spreading diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis.

The municipality called on the international community to urgently intervene, pressuring the Israeli occupation to end its war and allow the entry of essential supplies needed to restore water systems in Gaza.
