Najaf Friday Imam condemns Arab and International Media for Ignoring Ashura Commemorations

In a powerful sermon delivered at the Great Husseiniyeh of Lady Fatimah in Najaf, Hujjat al-Islam Seyyed Sadr al-Din Qabanchi strongly criticized Arab and international media outlets for their silence and absence from the massive mourning processions held in Iraq to commemorate the Day of Hazrat Abal-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).

AhlulBayt News Agency: In a powerful sermon delivered at the Great Husseiniyeh of Lady Fatimah in Najaf, Hujjat al-Islam Seyyed Sadr al-Din Qabanchi strongly criticized Arab and international media outlets for their silence and absence from the massive mourning processions held in Iraq to commemorate the Day of Hazrat Abal-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).

Addressing tens of thousands of worshippers during Friday prayers, Qabanchi described the scale of the gatherings as “unparalleled in history,” adding:

“Today, Iraq is witnessing a scene that cannot be described—millions of mourners have filled the streets with turbulent emotions, pure hearts, and unwavering loyalty to the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family). Not even the brush of the greatest painter could capture such a scene.”

He condemned regional and global media for ignoring what he called a “Husseini movement that charts the future of humanity”—a movement, he said, that tyrants throughout history have tried and failed to extinguish.

The prominent cleric highlighted the spiritual and tangible rewards of giving in the path of Imam Hussein (AS), quoting Imam Sadiq (AS):

“Whoever spends in the way of Imam Hussein (AS), Allah will grant him a reward equivalent to Mount Uhud for every dirham. He will be rewarded many times over, protected from affliction, and his wealth will be preserved and compensated.”

Qabanchi stressed that contributions made in the name of Imam Hussein (AS) have had visible blessings:

“Whatever we have spent in the path of Imam Hussein (AS), we have seen its impact—in our personal lives, in our communities, and in the very fabric of our country.”

He also elaborated on the enduring spiritual lessons drawn from the epic of Karbala. According to Qabanchi, Imam Hussein (AS) taught the world three key principles:

  1. Total submission to God – the highest level of faith.
  2. Supplication and weeping before God – in both hardship and ease.
  3. Sacrificing one's life for the sake of divine truth.

“These principles,” he stated, “were not mere words—they were embodied in the actions of Imam Hussein (AS) during the historic tragedy of Karbala.”

Concluding his sermon, Qabanchi declared that the followers of the Prophet’s household (peace be upon them) continue to walk this path of devotion and sacrifice:

“Today, the Shi’a of Ahl al-Bayt are living these values—submission, supplication, and sacrifice—and God willing, divine victory is near.”
