U.S. think tank analysis: Iran strike marks failure of Trump's anti-war policies

Responsible Statecraft reports that most Americans oppose Trump’s military strike on Iran.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The American think tank Responsible Statecraft has cited national polls showing widespread opposition to President Donald Trump’s military strike on Iran, calling it a betrayal of his promises to end wars and challenge the military-industrial complex.

The report states that the U.S.-Israel war against Iran has revealed strong anti-war sentiment across the United States. Despite a fragile ceasefire, multiple polls show that Trump’s decision to attack Iran was broadly unpopular.

Surveys conducted before and after the strikes indicated that even Trump’s core supporters opposed U.S. involvement in Israel’s war. A YouGov poll found that 85% of Americans did not want war with Iran, while only 5% supported it.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll showed 45% opposed the bombings and 36% supported them. A CNN poll revealed a 12-point gap, with 56% against and 44% in favor. Many respondents also believed the strikes would reduce U.S. security rather than enhance it.

The report argues that Americans supported Trump’s earlier anti-war stance, and his attack on Iran contradicts that position. It claims the U.S. has now become entangled in another endless war, actively supporting Israel through arms, intelligence, and coordination.

The report concludes that although Trump may label the conflict a “12-day war,” its consequences will be long-lasting. It emphasizes that ordinary people suffer in war, while defense contractors profit, reinforcing public opposition to military intervention.
