AhlulBayt News Agency: The Department of Rituals, Processions, and Hussaini Bodies has confirmed that mourning processions in the holy city of Karbala are proceeding smoothly during the early days of Muharram, in accordance with pre-established organizational plans.
Deputy head of the department, Engineer Kadhem Saleh, stated that the Karbala Hussaini processions began their activities on the first day of Muharram. Their movement has followed the planned routes without disruption, thanks to the department’s efforts to support procession organizers, manage their flow, and prevent overlap.
He noted that the department has implemented detailed schedules to regulate procession timings and designated specific areas for service processions to avoid congestion and ensure smooth visitor movement.
Saleh emphasized that all services provided by the Hussaini processions are under strict supervision to meet health and safety standards. Infrastructure such as electricity and water systems is also being monitored to maintain public safety.
The processions follow a defined route, starting from streets leading to the Qibla Gate of the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), passing through his courtyard, exiting via the Imam al-Hasan Gate, and concluding at the shrine of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), crossing the square between the two holy shrines.
Since the beginning of Muharram, Karbala has witnessed the launch of these mourning processions, which continue throughout the month to honor the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), his family, and companions—an annual tradition deeply rooted in the city’s culture.
