AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, stated that forming a consortium for nuclear activities could serve as a complementary measure, but it will never replace Iran’s domestic nuclear program.
In an interview with Al-Monitor, Iravani emphasized that uranium enrichment must take place on Iranian soil and that this principle is non-negotiable for the Islamic Republic.
He reiterated that while a consortium may assist nuclear efforts, it cannot substitute Iran’s sovereign right to maintain and operate its own enrichment program.
Iravani added that Iran has consistently pursued peaceful solutions to address international concerns regarding its nuclear activities.
He noted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was based on these same principles, and Iran remains committed to them.
Previously, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Tehran supports the idea of a nuclear consortium, but this does not imply Iran would relinquish domestic enrichment.
