AhlulBayt News Agency: Veteran British MP and former Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the struggle against the genocide in Gaza after British police dropped charges against him for participating in a pro-Palestine demonstration.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Corbyn expressed pride in attending numerous demonstrations alongside his friend John McDonnell. He stated, “Today, the police dropped the case against us following our participation in a demonstration in support of Palestine.”
He emphasized, “But let’s be clear: we will continue the struggle for as long as it takes to stop the genocide in Gaza.”
Corbyn’s remarks come amid a broader crackdown by British authorities on pro-Palestinian politicians and activists. He and former MP John McDonnell were summoned for questioning after joining a protest in central London against Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza.
Corbyn, who led the Labor Party from 2015 to 2020, is widely recognized for his anti-colonial positions and advocacy for justice, particularly regarding Palestinian rights. For years, he has faced media and political campaigns accusing him of “antisemitism,” which many view as an attempt to silence his outspoken support for Palestine.
His recent characterization of Israeli actions in Gaza as “genocide” sparked backlash from British right-wing circles, with critics warning that pro-Palestinian voices are being systematically excluded from political discourse.
Since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023, the UK has witnessed an unprecedented wave of public solidarity, with mass protests erupting in cities such as London, Manchester, and Birmingham. Corbyn has actively participated in these demonstrations alongside union leaders and activists from diverse backgrounds.
In previous statements, Corbyn asserted that “standing with Gaza is not just a political stance but a humanitarian obligation,” adding that Western governments’ silence emboldens Israel to continue its crimes against Palestinians.
The decision to drop charges against Corbyn and McDonnell was welcomed by British human rights organizations, which stressed the importance of protecting the right to peaceful protest. These groups warned that prosecuting Palestine supporters poses a serious threat to democracy in the UK.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), one of Europe’s most prominent grassroots movements advocating for Palestinian rights, has played a key role in exposing Israeli crimes in Gaza and the West Bank. Founded in 1982, the PSC organizes protests, leads boycott campaigns against companies complicit in the occupation, and applies political pressure within Parliament and British civil society.
The campaign enjoys broad support from MPs, political parties, and labor unions, reinforcing its influence in shaping public discourse on Palestine.
