AhlulBayt News Agency: Mehbooba Mufti, President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has condemned the closure of Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid on Eid al-Adha, calling it a violation of religious freedom.
Mufti also expressed disappointment over the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, stating that such actions interfere with religious rights.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Mufti criticized the government’s decision to lock the mosque on a sacred day, while placing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.
“This is the only Muslim-majority state in the country, yet on such a holy day, the mosque is locked and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is detained, while authorities claim that **‘everything is fine,’” she said.
She questioned the government’s stance, asking, “If everything is fine, then why the house arrest?”
Mufti strongly condemned the government’s actions, stating that they are merely standing by and allowing this to happen.
She also prayed for the people of Palestine, calling for an end to oppression and Israeli aggression.
“I extend Eid greetings—Eid Mubarak—to all Muslims worldwide, to my brothers, sisters, and children,” she added.
