Iran condemns Germany for expelling MP over Palestine T-shirt

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned Germany for expelling MP Cansin Köktürk over a Palestine T-shirt, calling it systematic hypocrisy. He accused Israel’s supporters of complicity in genocide. Israel has failed to achieve its objectives in Gaza, despite 20 months of aggression.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned the removal of German MP Cansin Köktürk from a parliamentary session for wearing a “Palestine” T-shirt, calling the incident a reflection of systematic hypocrisy among those who claim to support Palestine.

In a post on X on Thursday, Baghaei stated that such actions amount to complicity in Israel’s ongoing genocidal war against Palestinians.

“Normalizing Israel’s genocide stands as the darkest tragedy in the world today, and Israel’s supporters & apologists are no less than complicit in its atrocities,” he wrote.

Baghaei further criticized Germany’s Bundestag, stating that even the word “Palestine” on a T-shirt was deemed unacceptable, exposing the hypocrisy of those who claim to support an independent Palestinian state.

On Wednesday, Köktürk was expelled from the Bundestag chamber for wearing a “political T-shirt” with the word “Palestine” on it.

Julia Klöckner, the president of the parliament, justified the decision, stating that stickers or statements on T-shirts should not be allowed in the plenary.

As Köktürk was being removed, a pro-Palestinian activist in the visitors’ gallery interrupted Germany’s Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, shouting “Free Palestine” and “Blood on your hands” before being forcibly removed by parliamentary security.

Following the incident, Köktürk criticized Wadephul’s stance, saying, “Not a word about over 50,000 dead and injured children. I am asked to leave the chamber because my T-shirt says ‘Palestine.’ You have all failed so badly.”

Global anger against Israel has intensified since October 7, 2023, when the occupying regime launched a genocidal war on Gaza.

Nearly 20 months into the conflict, Israel has failed to achieve its declared objectives, despite killing at least 54,607 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 125,341 others.
