Freedom Flotilla Coalition defies Israeli threats as Madleen sails toward Gaza

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) continues its mission to break Israel’s siege on Gaza, despite Israeli threats to intercept its vessel, the Madleen. The UN has called for the protection of the ship, warning Israel against hostile actions. Israel faces global condemnation for blocking aid and starving Gaza civilians.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) continues its mission to break the Israeli siege on Gaza, despite threats from Israel to intercept its vessel, the Madleen.

The Madleen departed from Italy on Sunday, carrying food, medical supplies, and baby essentials for Gaza.

On Wednesday, Israel warned that it was “prepared” to take action to prevent the FFC from reaching Gaza.

Meanwhile, the FFC reported that a drone approached and circled the ship south of Crete, Greece, on Wednesday night, followed by two additional drones.

“These actions raise serious concerns about whether Greece and/or the European Union is conducting surveillance on behalf of Israel,” the FFC stated.

Yasemin Acar, a crew member aboard the Madleen, urged institutions, governments, and people of conscience to demand that Israel refrain from attacking the vessel and uphold human dignity in Gaza.

The Madleen, carrying a 12-member team, including environmental activist Greta Thunberg, is expected to arrive in Gaza by June 7.

On Monday, the United Nations called for the protection of the ship, warning Israel that the world is watching closely and urging it to avoid any hostile actions against the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and its passengers.

This marks the FFC’s second attempt to deliver aid to Gaza since May, after Israeli drones attacked their previous vessel, the Conscience, in international waters near Malta.

The Conscience was struck by two Israeli military drones, which set it ablaze and severely damaged its hull. The FFC condemned the attack as a “deliberate act of aggression and intimidation.”

The FFC, a global grassroots solidarity movement, was founded in 2010. It operates through various campaigns and initiatives to end Israel’s blockade of Gaza, advocating for people-to-people humanitarian efforts.

Since March 2, Israel has blocked all aid trucks from entering Gaza, deliberately subjecting 2.3 million civilians to starvation for over 90 days.

Israel has faced widespread criticism for using engineered starvation as a weapon of war, pushing the entire civilian population to the brink of famine.
