Urgent call for humanitarian intervention as medical crews face dire conditions in Gaza

UNICEF has warned that Gaza’s healthcare system is collapsing due to Israeli bombardment and blockade. Medical staff face extreme shortages, and hospitals are operating at reduced capacity. Urgent international intervention is needed to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned that medical crews in Gaza are working under extreme pressure due to severe shortages of medical and fuel supplies needed to keep hospitals operational.

UNICEF spokesman Kadem Abu Khalaf stated on Saturday that the UN is not demanding the impossible in Gaza but is simply calling for the implementation of international law, which guarantees civilians the right to healthcare, life, and movement.

“If Gaza remains like this, we will be facing a humanitarian catastrophe whose impacts will last for decades,” Abu Khalaf cautioned.

He further explained that critical humanitarian cases, including children, women, and elderly individuals, are dying every day because they are denied access to proper medical care.

Khalaf stressed that this crisis cannot be solved solely with aid; a comprehensive plan is required to rebuild the economy and ensure the regular reopening of border crossings for the entry of essential goods, fuel, and medical supplies.

Abu Khalaf also warned that Gaza’s healthcare system is nearing total collapse due to relentless Israeli bombardment and the ongoing blockade.

“Before the war, 36 hospitals were operational in Gaza, but that number has now dropped to around 18, most of which are functioning at partial capacity, not exceeding 50 percent,” he said.
