AhlulBayt News Agency: Sweden's Foreign Minister, Maria Malmer Stenergard, announced on Tuesday that her country would advocate for European Union sanctions against specific Israeli ministers in response to Israel’s treatment of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
Stenergard stated that given the lack of tangible improvements in the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Sweden believes stronger measures are necessary.
“We will therefore now push for EU sanctions against individual Israeli ministers,” she said in a statement to AFP.
She clarified that the proposed sanctions would target officials promoting illegal settlement expansion and obstructing efforts toward a two-state solution, with EU discussions determining which individuals would be included.
Her remarks came during a meeting with EU foreign ministers in Brussels, as pressure mounts within the bloc for stronger action regarding the crisis in Gaza.
