AhlulBayt News Agency: Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses have reported that an Israeli operation involving forces disguised as women failed to retrieve captives held in Gaza before retreating under Israeli aerial cover.
Eyewitnesses described seeing a white bus arrive in the al-Mahatta neighborhood, near central Khan Yunis, on Monday. The bus appeared to be carrying displaced women.
According to reports, nine individuals dressed as women, some veiled and others with uncovered faces, exited the bus and entered a home belonging to the Sarhan family, which had previously been damaged by Israeli attacks.
Shortly afterward, gunfire erupted, and the undercover Israeli unit quickly fled under heavy aerial bombardment.
During the raid, Israeli forces killed Ahmed Kamel Sarhan, a commander in the Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, and abducted his wife and child, according to the group.
Following the 20-minute gunfight, investigators discovered rifle shells, bullet casings, smoke grenades, women’s clothing, and a disguised empty box resembling displaced people’s luggage.
Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the operation aimed to abduct Sarhan and interrogate him for information on Israeli captives, but ultimately failed.
The raid occurred amid intensified Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, which killed six people and injured dozens more. It also followed the Israeli military’s announcement of a new major offensive in northern and southern Gaza.
Israel launched its genocidal campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians so far.
In January, Israel was forced to agree to a ceasefire deal with Hamas after failing to achieve its objectives, including the elimination of the Palestinian resistance movement and the release of captives.
The 42-day truce, which was repeatedly violated by Israel, expired on March 1, but Israel has refused to engage in talks for a second stage of the agreement.
On March 18, Israel resumed airstrikes on Gaza, breaking the nearly two-month-long ceasefire
