AhlulBayt News Agency - For the first time since late February, the Russian Air Force has launched a powerful series of airstrikes over southern Aleppo, targeting the extremist rebels from Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Jund Al-Aqsa (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Ajnad Al-Sham, and the Free Syrian Army’s “Division 13” at the strategic hilltop village of Tal Al-‘Eiss.
According to a military source in the nearby town of Al-Safira, the Russian Air Force has hit several extremist rebel targets near Tal Al-‘Eiss, including Jabhat Al-Nusra’s primary supply route along the Banes-Tal Al-‘Eiss Road and the ICARDA Farms that are situated on the border of the Idlib Governorate.
These airstrikes are meant to weaken the Jihadist defenses before the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division – alongside Hezbollah, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary) – begin their counter-assault to retake Tal Al-‘Eiss and cutoff the Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway).
The counter-offensive is expected to be launched in the next 48 hours as several units from Hezbollah, the Syrian Arab Army, and the IRGC have reportedly deployed to southern Aleppo in order to participate in this large-scale assault.
