Iran's Larijani Asks for Halting Instrumental Use of Terrorists

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underscored the necessity for a halt in using terrorist groups as a means for certain countries to reach their goals.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underscored the necessity for a halt in using terrorist groups as a means for certain countries to reach their goals.

"All countries should desist from warmongering and hostile behavior since the era of occupation and hegemony has ended and such behaviors should be corrected to prevent using terrorists as a tool," Larijani said in a meeting with Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann in Tehran on Sunday.

Schneider-Ammann, for his part, expressed the hope that the crisis in Syria, Yemen and all other countries which are experiencing war would be settled soon through talks and the bloodsheds would stop.

He also voiced concern about the growing problem of refugees who leave their countries for the fear of their life and for a better life in the European countries.

In relevant remarks earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blasted certain states for making an instrumental use of terrorist and militant groups to obtain their political ends, cautioning that using terrorist groups as pawns for deeper political agenda could backfire.

"Using terrorists as pawns in politics and diplomacy is unprecedented. It could have dangerous consequences," Zarif told the Iran-based Arabic-language al-Alam news channel in Brussels.

He urged certain regional states to stay away from the illusion that they could use military force for political settlement in Syria.
