AhlulBayt News Agency - Moments ago inside the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Mechanized Division – backed by the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – captured half of the Dara’a Al-Balad District, including several sites in the northern sector that were under the control of the Islamist rebels from the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

According to a military source from the 5th Armored Division headquarters in the city of Izra’a, the Syrian Armed Forces have seized the Dara’a Police Station and most of the Bajaya neighborhood after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group).

The Dara’a Balad District was originally under the control of the Islamist rebel fighters up until November of 2015; since then, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and their allies have been able to reach the Old Dara’a border post and several neighborhoods that are located south of the Dara’a National Hospital inside the provincial capital.

Should the Syrian Armed Forces capture all of the Dara’a Al-Balad District, they will be in full control of the provincial capital, while the Islamist rebels retreat towards the Jordanian border in order to regroup.
