Iraq’s prime minister says the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers is a sign of the common interest in defeating the ISIL terror group, which is wreaking havoc on the Middle East.
Using the Arabic acronym for the Takfiri group, Haider al-Abadi said on social media on Wednesday that “Daesh seeks to drag our region into perpetual conflict,” adding, “The Iran deal expresses a common will to bring peace and security to our region.”
Following marathon talks in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on Tuesday, Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers - the US, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – finalized the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which will put limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
In similar comments, Sa’ad al-Hadithi, Abadi’s spokesman, also reacted by calling the development “a catalyst for regional stability” and “an important step” that would lead to better unity in the fight against terrorism.
The ISIL has overrun swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria. They are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control. The extremists have terrorized and killed people of all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
