Iran’s National Quran Museum to relocate for expanded Quranic activities

The National Museum of the Quran in Tehran has served as a cultural hub for preserving Quranic manuscripts and Islamic texts. Officials plan to relocate the museum to Saadabad for better accessibility. The collection includes rare handwritten copies of the Quran and historic literary works.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The decision to relocate Iran’s National Quran Museum has been made to expand Quranic activities and improve accessibility, an official announced.

Earlier this month, the museum’s director confirmed that the institution will move to the Saadabad Cultural and Historical Complex in northern Tehran.

On Monday, Ali Darabi, the cultural heritage deputy at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, stated that the previous location of the Quran Museum faced certain limitations.

He noted that, particularly during special occasions like the holy month of Ramadan—when Quranic institutions hold events until dawn—the museum's current site was not suitable for hosting such activities.

“These serious limitations have led us to conclude that relocating the museum is necessary,” Darabi said.

He emphasized that efforts are already underway to transfer equipment and facilities to the Saadabad Complex, which offers a more appropriate space for Quranic programs and gatherings.

Darabi further highlighted the importance of making the museum accessible to the public, describing it as one of the major achievements of the Islamic Revolution.

“We hope that through this relocation, we are taking an effective step toward the development and promotion of Quranic culture,” he added.

The National Museum of the Quran, inaugurated in Tehran in 2005, is dedicated to Quranic arts and manuscripts.

Its collection includes handwritten copies of the Quran, works by prominent Iranian poets, scrolls, and books of Islamic supplications, dating from the fourth century AH to the late Qajar era.
