AhlulBayt News Agency: A $70-million US F-18 “Super Hornet” fighter jet sank to the depths of the Red Sea following an attack by Yemen’s armed forces on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. CNN and other media outlets reported the incident on Monday, stating that one sailor suffered minor injuries during the event.
The US Navy confirmed that the fighter jet fell overboard while being towed, as the aircraft carrier made a sharp evasive maneuver to avoid Yemeni projectiles. The Navy noted that one crew member was aboard the jet and another inside the tractor towing it. Both personnel managed to escape in time, with only one sustaining minor injuries, while the jet and towing vehicle were lost to the sea.
Earlier on Monday, Yemeni armed forces, under the control of the Ansarullah (Houthi) group, announced that they had launched drones and missiles targeting the aircraft carrier in retaliation for renewed US airstrikes. These airstrikes had devastated parts of Sana’a and other provinces, leading to significant civilian casualties.
Yemen’s health ministry in Sana’a reported that Sunday’s airstrikes on Bani Al-Harith district killed 12 civilians, including women and children, and injured four others. Additionally, Monday’s airstrike on a migrant detention center in Saada resulted in a tragic toll of 70 civilian deaths and numerous injuries, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
