Ahlulbayt News Agency: The secretary-general of the Islamic Research Assembly affiliated with Al-Azhar Islamic Center, once again expressed the assembly’s opposition to the printing of colored Qurans in Egypt.
Mohammad Al-Jundi said that the assembly recently made a decision to prohibit the use of colored paper in printing the Quran, deeming black font as the only appropriate color for the Quranic text.
He added that this decision was made with the aim of preserving the dignity and status of the Holy Quran, and therefore, no permits will be issued for the printing and publication of colored Qurans in Egypt.
He said the Committee for the Review of Printed Qurans has a significant responsibility before Almighty God, adding that the issue of ensuring the proper printing of the Quran, in terms of revision and oversight, is extremely important and, therefore, the assembly pays special attention to this matter.
Al-Jundi explained that the revision of the Qurans printed in Egypt is carried out by a group of experts in Quranic sciences, who are members of the faculty at Al-Azhar University’s Quran College and other institutions specializing in Quranic Qara’at (recitations).
It is worth mentioning that the assembly had previously issued a decree banning the printing of the Quran in flashy and neon colors in Egypt, opposing the sale of these colored versions of the Quran in the country’s market.
According to the assembly’s guidelines, the text of the Holy Quran should only be written in black ink, and the background of the Quran pages must be in white or cream color.
Also, any publishing institution that fails to adhere to the established criteria for printing the Holy Quran will have the matter reported to the enforcement authorities, and these versions will be removed from the market. Additionally, the offending publishing institution will be deprived of the right to print the Quran.
