AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) 36th Division began a large-scale incursion into the city of Rafah as part of its ongoing military operation in the southern Gaza Strip, according to Hebrew media.
Israeli official broadcaster said, “Israeli army forces began a ground operation in Rafah early Wednesday morning.”
“This is the Israeli army’s first major ground incursion since the end of the ceasefire two weeks ago,” it added, referring to the resumption of its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on March 18.
On Saturday, the IOF announced the expansion of its ground operation in the southern Gaza Strip to expand the security buffer zone, calling it “defensive security zone,” and on Monday warned the Palestinians in Rafah to evacuate the area immediately.
Since dawn on Wednesday, the IOF has launched a series of intensive and violent airstrikes on various areas in Rafah.
On March 23, the IOF announced sending the IOF 36th Division to the Gaza Strip border after ending its military operations in southern Lebanon.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli War Minister Yisrael Katz announced the expansion of the military aggression on the Strip, aiming at “seizing large areas to be annexed to the security zones in Gaza,” which it has been controlling since October 7, 2023.
