AhlulBayt News Agency: Two Palestinian prisoners’ rights groups have announced the death of a Palestinian inmate from the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank at an Israeli detention center, affirming that he died from systematic torture he endured at the hands of jailers.

The Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) announced in a joint statement on Monday that 41-year-old Khaled Mahmoud Qasim Abdullah, an administrative detainee, died on February 23 in Megiddo Prison.

The rights groups pointed out that Abdullah, a father of four children, had been held under administrative detention since November 9, 2024.

They noted that Abdullah's death marks another crime in the record of the Israel Prison Service, which has reached new extremes since the onset of the Gaza genocidal war.

The groups highlighted that the occupying Israeli regime does not only kill detainees, but deliberately conceals their fate for a period after their death.

The Commission and PPS affirmed that the ongoing mistreatment of detainees is part of the larger genocide strategy, which aims to execute and eliminate more Palestinians through systematic means.

They also emphasized that the rising number of deaths among detainees will continue to grow as more Palestinians remain in Israeli prisons, where they face daily abuse, including torture, starvation, medical neglect, sexual violence and conditions that lead to severe and contagious diseases. Additionally, there is an unprecedented level of deprivation and dispossession.

The rights groups held the usurping Israeli regime fully responsible for the death of Abdullah.

They reiterated their calls on international human rights organizations to take decisive action to hold Israeli officials accountable for the ongoing war crimes they are committing against Palestinians.

They called for imposition of sanctions in order to isolate Israel internationally, and restore the role of the international human rights system, which has been severely weakened during the bloody Gaza onslaught.

The rights groups also urged an end to the exceptional immunity Israel has been granted by colonial powers, which have allowed it to evade accountability and punishment.

Last week, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called for an international investigation into Israeli crimes against Palestinian prisoners.

The ministry said in a statement that it views with grave concern the increase in the number of Palestinian detainees, particularly from the Gaza Strip, who have died in Israeli custody.

The Palestinian foreign ministry called on international humanitarian and human rights organizations to swiftly intervene to protect Palestinian detainees, and oblige Israeli authorities to fulfill their responsibilities toward detainees.

It also stressed the need to enable the United Nations Commission of Inquiry to assume its tasks, and investigate these extrajudicial killings, committed against Palestinian detainees in a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions.
