AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Top Military Advisor to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Yahya Rahim Safavi said that the war in Ukraine has decreased power of the US, the NATO and Europe while China has benefited.
The Ukraine war benefits China the most, more than any other country while the power shifts from the West towards the East, General Rahim Safavi said on Wednesday.
"This war has reduced the power of the United States, NATO and Europe, but Russia has also suffered, while the greatest damage to Russia has taken place in world public opinion and the power of Russian public diplomacy," he added.
General Rahim Safavi also said that the sanctions imposed on Moscow by the West would come at a cost for both Russia and the western side themselves including the United States and Europe.
He, meantime, predicted a brighter future for Iran, saying that in the year ahead, many opportunities will be available to Tehran that have to be used with smart diplomacy.
"We must plan and act with a strategic and comprehensive thinking in economic, political, cultural and security dimensions to make Iran stronger by using regional and global opportunities," the top advisor said.
The US and its allies slapped "severe" and comprehensive sanctions on Russia over its ongoing special military operation in Ukraine announced by President Vladimir Putin on February 24.
Russia's Defense Ministry underscored that the nation's armed forces are only targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure with high-precision weapons and that civilians are not in danger.
As part of the sanctions, US President Joe Biden announced a total ban on energy imports from Russia in early March, while the UK vowed to phase out imports of Russian oil and coal products by the end of 2022. The European Commission, in turn, rolled out a plan to reduce reliance on Russian gas by two-thirds before Christmas, and abolish Russian fossil fuel, such as coal and oil, by 2030.
