AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): High school students of the sixth unit of Imam Reza schools, along with their parents, have held a “coming of age” ceremony (Jashn-e Taklif) for the Sunni girls of Mashhad suburbs with school representatives in attendance.
A group of high school girls from Imam Reza schools has thrown a coming of age ceremony for their nine-year-old Sunni sisters living in underprivileged areas outside the city of Mashhad, northeast Iran. Under their teachers’ direction, the students have taken the initiative to both celebrate the occasion for the young girls and consolidate unity between Islamic sects.
Prior to the event, the schoolgirls had prepared provisions in the venue of the ceremony and decorated the Hosseinieh (congregation hall for ceremonial purposes) with colorful lights and flags. Above all, the flag of the Eighth Shia Imam (AS) had been raised at the front to sanctify the religious obligation ceremony for the young girls.
The event commenced with 30 nine-year-olds and their mothers in attendance. In the course of the ceremony, the young girls were granted Islamic veil of Hijab. This was followed by a festive performance centering on religious affairs and children’s upbringing, which was aimed at explaining religious commandments and how the young girls should perform prayers.
Later in the ceremony, 30 gift packages containing prayer veils, white scarves, prayer rugs, etc. bearing “Happy Coming of Age Ceremony” were granted to the Sunni girls. The event concluded with congregational noon and afternoon prayers of Sunni and Shia girls together.
