AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Nureddin Attar, a renowned Syrian memorizer and interpreter of the Quran, died at the age of 83.
Attar, who was also a Faqih (Islamic jurisprudent) and literary figure, died earlier this week.
Born in 1937 in Aleppo, he finished high school in his country in 1954 and then went to Egypt to study at Al-Azhar University.
He graduated in 1964, getting his PhD in Hadith and Quran interpretation. He returned to Syria and started teaching at high school.
Attar then went to Saudi Arabia and taught Hadiths at the Islamic University of Medina before returning to Syria in 1967.
He taught in many other universities in Arab and Muslim countries and wrote a large number of books and papers in the fields of Quran interpretation, Fiqh, and Hadiths.
