Israeli police, jailers beat, abuse al-Quds child in detention

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has accused the Israeli occupation police and jailers of physically assaulting and maltreating a Jerusalemite child during his detention.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA):  The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has accused the Israeli occupation police and jailers of physically assaulting and maltreating a Jerusalemite child during his detention.

According to the Commission’s lawyer, 17-year-old Nouruddin Obeid, from the east al-Quds (Jerusalem) district of Issawiya, was kidnaped by police forces during clashes with local youths in Issawiya on December 23, 2020.

The lawyer, who visited the kid in Damon jail, quoted him as saying that police officers severally beat him with their hands, legs and weapons and wounded him before hauling him into a military jeep where they continued to beat him mercilessly aboard the vehicle.

Soon later, the police transferred him to one of its stations in al-Quds (Jerusalem), where they questioned him for about an hour with his hands and legs shackled, deprived him of going to the bathroom and detained him until two o’clock after midnight in the station’s yard where the weather was very cold at the time before taking him to a cell at the Moskobiya detention center in west al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The kid told the lawyer that he suffered from inhumane incarceration conditions for 12 days at the Moskobiya center before transferring him to Ofek prison, where Israeli convicts and criminals are locked up.

During his presence in Ofek prison, he asked Israeli jailers to allow him to phone his family, but they physically assaulted him and tortured him through tying him up to a bed for long hours, not giving him food or water, and preventing him from going to the bathroom.

He stayed in Ofek prison for 10 days before transferring him to the juvenile section of Damon jail.
