AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Liberation of al-Quds takes center stage at this year’s Islamic Unity Week, says the Iranian Parliament Speaker amid the rising Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza and occupied West Bank.
“This year's Unity Week, by the grace of God, will be a week of Muslim unity over the cause of liberating Al-Quds,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday while addressing lawmakers before the start of an official session.
“The unity of Muslims around the world today lies in a unified voice and solidarity on the issue of Palestine,” he added.
The remarks come as programs are being held across the world to mark the Islamic Unity Week.
The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on September 21 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (Thursday, September 16) as the birthday of the last prophet.
The interval between the two dates was declared the Islamic Unity Week by the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, in the 1980s.
The occasion is marked this year as Muslims in the besieged Gaza Strip are facing genocidal attacks by Israeli forces. The Israeli regime launched its devastating war on October 7 last year after a retaliatory operation by Palestinian resistance forces. More than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed and above 95,000 others, mostly women and children, injured in the Israeli attacks in the past 10 months.
“Today, Gaza is the capital of the hearts of all Muslims worldwide and the criterion for distinguishing true Islam from hypocritical Islam,” Ghalibaf said.
“The main goal of Sunnis, Shias, and all Islamic sects and denominations is to stop the longest genocide in human history, the 80-year genocide of the Palestinian people by ruthless and professional Zionist criminals,” he added.
