AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The president of the University of Religions and Denominations introduced the activities of the center to the leader of the world's Catholics.
Hojat-ol-Islam Abolhassan Navvab met and held talks with Pope Francis at the Vatican this week.
During the meeting, the Iranian cleric explained the activities and approaches of the university, noting that the mission of the academic center is to raise awareness about all religions so as to “expand peace and friendship”.
For his part, Pope Francis noted that the relationship between Islam and Christianity has improved compared to the past thanks to the efforts of all individuals who have set foot on this path.
He also expressed surprise over the works that have been published by the Iranian university, noting that this is what prophets did by explaining the revelation.
Pope Francis said the Vatican supports the establishment of a section for Christianity in the Iranian university.
University of Religions and Denominations, the first specialized university in the field of religions and denominations in Iran, and an offshoot of the Islamic Seminary aims to obtain knowledge of religions and denominations and strives for interactions and dialogues with their followers based on common beliefs, according to its website.
The Qom-based academic center pursues to conduct research, and train specialists in order to establish human solidarity, strengthen peace, alleviate human sufferings, disseminate spirituality and morality, and provide a scholarly introduction to Islam in consonance with the doctrines of the Progeny of the Prophet Muhammad (Ahl al-Bayt); peace be upon them.
