(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Over the course of Saturday to Sunday, Islamic State militants launched a sustained assault against Syrian Arab Army defenses around the town of Al-Jalaa on the eastern shore of the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor province.
The day-long attack was fierce (as are most clashes with ISIS) and in the end the Syrian Army emerged as the winner having fended off the assault on Al-Jalaa and sending jihadist fighters limping from the battlefield in rout after delivering a nasty blow to their already dwindling ranks.
According to military sources, at least nine Islamic State terrorists were killed during the failed assault.
The Syrian state television group SANA has released a a brief video report (available below) documenting the local army troops involved in the defense of Al-Jalaa and its surrounding countryside as well as the result of the battle with ISIS – to this end, the corpses of five of the 9 Islamist State militants killed in the attack are shown off.
