Azerbaijani security officials arrested prominent cleric on charges of violating Article 168 of the Azerbaijani Penal Code, which prohibits holding Islamic religious rituals with the imamate of clerics who have been educated abroad.
According to the report, trial of Sheikh Hasan Ali, a member of the council of Azerbaijani clerics and editor of the Maedeh Az news site, was held on Sunday.
Sheikh Sardar Hasan Ali's lawyer announced that he sentenced to three years in prison.
