(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A number of ISIS members recently fled the group in Hawija district of western Kirkuk province, taking a huge amount of cash with them, said a source from Kirkuk on Monday.
Sumaria channel reported on Monday that 8 employees of the ISIS Almsgiving Department have stolen 600 milion Iraqi dinars (equivalent to $470,000) from the department and fled Hawija to an unknown location.
The incident took place under murky circumstances in the town of Hawija last Sunday, the source said, noting that the militants have launched an operation to find the perpetrators of the robery. This is not however a unique incident as several IS leaders have previously looted civilian properties and IS cash storages before fleeing the extremist group.
The IS members have taken the escape route after they realized that their days in the city have been numbered, especially after their latest overwhelming defeat.
Hawija has been under the control of IS since June of 2014, and the district is being considered as one of the main bastions of the terrorists in Iraq.
