Paris attack must awaken terror supporters: Iran Velayati

Ali Akbar Velayati, director of the Strategic Research Center at the Expediency Council, has said Western and regional countries should stop their support for terrorists in the Mideast region.

Ali Akbar Velayati, director of the Strategic Research Center at the Expediency Council, has said Western and regional countries should stop their support for terrorists in the Mideast region.

Velayati made the remarks in a joint press conference with Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides in Tehran on Saturday.

He strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Paris, saying it should be a warning for those Western and regional countries that have supported terrorists directly or indirectly.

On Wednesday, two masked gunmen stormed into the Parisian headquarters of the satirical weekly, Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people, including eight journalists, two police officers, a maintenance worker and a visitor.

Velayati also stated that Iran and Cyprus share close views on the situation in Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon.

He went on to say that supporting the Zionist regime of Israel should be stopped, because its consequences are seen in other countries, specifically France.

Kasoulides also told reporters that Iran and Cyprus share common views on regional developments.
