An English-language paper on Saturday commented on the current grim situation in Iraq saying that the menace of terrorism can only be removed by the Iraqis themselves.
People from all walks of life, religions and ethnic communities play a crucial role in rescuing their motherland from the clutches of terrorism, added Iran Daily in its Opinion column.
The paper was referring to the blind terrorism which has engulfed Iraq, targeting all religious groups and ethnic communities, regardless of their affiliation.
The need of the hour is that all Iraqis must form a united front to combat the menace of terrorism, suggested the paper.
Thus far, Sunni clerics as well as Sunni and Shia students, travelers, soldiers, army officers and civilians have fallen victim to the terrorist acts of Baathist-Takfiri elements in Iraq.
Today, mass executions, burning of human beings and attacks on civilian areas are the usual practices of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
The barbaric manner in which ISIL terrorists kill innocent people and then publicize it on the Internet shows that these terrorists are neither Sunnis nor committed to any religion, let alone the humanitarian precepts of Islam.
Reports indicate they are the paid soldiers of intelligence services such as Mossad and CIA, whose main mission is to tarnish the image of Islam and protect the Zionist regime of Israel.
Their second mission is to sow seeds of discord among religious brothers in Iraq to unleash a sectarian war. And thirdly, they aim to topple Nouri al-Maleki’s government to install their own lackeys in that country, it said.
Fortunately, religious leaders in Iraq, in general, and Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, in particular, are wise enough not to be ensnared in the trap of enemies.
Ayatollah Sistani in a fatwa has called on all Iraqi nationals belonging to all religious schools of thought or ethnic community to pick up arms and defend their motherland against blind terrorism.
The way the terrorists attacked and occupied parts of Iraq in a speedy manner shows that the elements of the defunct Baath Party have joined hands with some takfiri groups to kill human beings in cold blood to achieve their nasty goals dictated by their masters.
However, developments of the past few days have demonstrated that the Iraqi government and people are fully capable of handling the situation and there is no need for any foreign intervention.
International organizations must, however, not forget their duty in taking appropriate measures against terrorism in Iraq and Syria.
Iraq today has a democratically-elected government that must be supported by the United Nations and other international organizations.
If peace is endangered in Iraq, it is the duty of the United Nations to deal with countries behind the terrorist acts in that country.
If Washington were serious in fighting terrorism or not behind the terrorists in Iraq, why did US President Barack Obama not agree with the Iraqi request to conduct air attacks on the terrorists?
On the contrary, at a time when the government is heavily preoccupied by the threat of terrorists, Obama implicitly called for the resignation of Iraqi premier. This has made international analysts believe the ISIL terrorist attacks were coordinated with the CIA, Mossad, former Baath Party officers and bigots who themselves will suffer when their sinister plans come home to roost in the near future, the daily concluded.
