The First Sermon
In the first sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, talked about work and explained that faith is associated with good work, which is meant to serve life, since the meaning of work in Islam is to produce, build and be beneficial. He also noted that Islam did not differentiate in terms of the call to work between males and females.
The Sayyed then went on to talk about the ethics of work. He explained that the two essential conditions that should be available for a worker is knowledge and trustworthiness, which is the most important trait.
The Sayyed criticized those who do not consider that religion has to do with work, and they opt instead for gaining more than they should or engaging in drug deals, smuggling, gambling, kidnapping or even taking bribes. He maintained that the aforementioned never reflects the acts of anyone who is religious.
He then maintained that the workers ought to receive their rights in full, for in addition to being a virtue that religion calls for, work is the way to build a strong and clean economy.
The second sermon
In the second sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, wished that the Lebanese have a new president who has the power to unite them and respond to their aspirations, but he warned that this might not take place unless certain regional and international agreements take place. So, he called on all the officials in Lebanon not to wait for such an agreement and vote for a president they agree on.
He said that he believes that they can actually do so, at least this time, if they free themselves of their bets and affiliations and think about the interests of their country and its people.
The Sayyed then called on the Parliament to approve the raise of wages, yet without overburdening the citizens with more taxes or hurting the economy.
On another level, the Sayyed warned from dragging the Biqaa into a sectarian strife, through launching rockets on certain villages; an act adopted by a group that gives itself a sectarian name.
He also called on the Government to preserve the right of speech, and demanded the International Tribunal for Lebanon to honor its credibility.
In Palestine, the Sayyed called on the Palestinian Authorities and Hamas to go on with the reconciliation and not to succumb to the Israeli pressures.
