Iran Condemns Bombings in Iraq

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - On Saturday, more than 70 people were killed and more than 200 others injured in a series of bombings in Baghdad.“The terrorists and their supporters are surely after taking revenge from the Iraqi government and nation as well as ruining the democratic trend and national solidarity of that country by carrying out such inhumane and savage acts and they are trying to make Iraq enter internal and tribal conflicts by waging religious sedition and provoking the (Iraqi) people,” Afkham said on Sunday.The Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman voiced Iran’s support for the national will of the Iraqi nation and political groups to strengthen the Muslim country’s unity and pave the way for that country’s progress.In the deadliest of the attacks on Saturday, 57 people died after two bombings were carried out near a funeral tent in Shiite-dominated Sadr City North of Baghdad.The attack, which took place at about 5:30pm (1430 GMT), also injured about 120 others.“The perpetrators of this horrible crime are seeking to foment sectarian strife and instability,” Iraqi parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi said yesterday.So far in September, over 540 people have been killed and more than 4,300 have died since the beginning of the year, according to AFP figures based on security and medical sources./149
