Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, top jurisprudent and professor at Qom Seminary, referred to chaotic situation in Egypt and noted Mohammad Morsi’s blind pursuit of Salafi objectives as the reason for his topple.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, top jurisprudent and professor at Qom Seminary, referred to chaotic situation in Egypt and noted Mohammad Morsi’s blind pursuit of Salafi objectives as the reason for his topple.He warned against outbreak of a civil war in Egypt and said,” It is a pity if people in Egypt, which is one of the most important Islamic countries with a great civilization and prominent center like Al Azhar, start to fight each other for power.”Iranian cleric said,” Morsi blindly followed extremist Salafis and forgot about the demands of 49 per cent of the people who had not voted for him while a government should fulfill legal and logical demands of all people.”Grand cleric also referred to a speech given by Mohammad Morsi in an anti-Shia gathering and said the result of attending such a meeting is nothing but merciless martyrdom of Sheikh Shehata, Egyptian Shia cleric.Ayatollah Makarem said,” It is impossible that we hold a meeting in Iran and invite our president to give a speech against Sunni Muslims because Sunni community is a part of our society and their legal demands have to be met.Top jurisprudent concluded that a solution for the current situation in Egypt is that they get together and maintain the demands of all people otherwise the country will face an uncertain future./129
