(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) SIU Farooq Awan said that the arrested militant, Tariq Shafi alias Doctor, 'is a known terrorist' and was wanted in 14 cases pertaining to sectarian killings, in which eight people were killed.
Shafi is also a suspect in the murder of college principal, Professor Sibte Jafar, and is listed as absconding in the case, Awan said.
A former head constable in police telecommunication wing in 2001, Shafi was later dismissed from his duties and arrested on charges of involvement in sectarian attacks.
He was released in 2008.
The information on Shafi came through after a former LJ Karachi chief, Hafiz Qasim Rasheed, who was arrested in 2012.
