Another Israeli Protester Sets Himself on Fire

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A man lit himself on fire in Jerusalem Monday afternoon, and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
    
The man, 21, set himself ablaze in an apartment in the capital's ultra-Orthodox community of Sanhedria. The motives behind the act were not immediately clear.

Many have exercised self-immolation in Israel during the last year, mostly coming from impoverished families.

But the number of those attempting to set themselves on fire has specially been on the increase since a homeless man self-immolated at a rally in Tel Aviv in July to protest social injustice and the Israeli regime's cruelty against its own so-called citizens.

He died of his wounds several days after the act, and another man, a disabled Israel Defense Forces veteran also died after setting himself on fire.

The 45-year old disabled army veteran Akiva Mafa'i died from burns sustained from setting himself on fire in a bus stop in the city of Yehud about 15 kilometers East of Tel Aviv.

Prior to the protest move, Mafa'i read out a letter and accused the Israeli officials of "taking from the poor and giving to the rich".

Hundreds of thousands of people marched and set up protest camps across the occupied Palestinian territories during demonstrations in the summer. Angry at the high costs of living and social inequalities, the protesters called for the resignation of Netanyahu.
