(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - At least five people were gunned down and six others injured on Thursday when a van carrying people belonging to the the Hazara community was ambushed on Spini Road.
However, the Hazara community put the figure at seven, saying that two protesters were shot dead allegedly by police and security personnel during the protest demonstrations in Faisal Town and A1 City on Brewery Road. The community continued protest for the second consecutive day by staging demonstrations.
Funeral prayers of the slain were held at Hazara Graveyard in the presence of leaders and political workers of Shia community. Addressing a news conference at Hazara Graveyard, the Shia Conference vice president said that police had rounded up over 20 people of the Hazara community during a peaceful protest. Earlier, the community had announced that burial of the slain people would be done after release of the arrested protesters. However, police released only some of the arrested people of the community.
The strike call was given by Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) and Shia Conference, and backed by Balochistan National Party (BNP), National Party (NP), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP), Jamhoori Wattan Party (JWP) and other nationalist parties.
Trade and business activities in Quetta remained closed. All shops, trading centres, restaurants and commercial establishments on Prince Road, Masjid Road, Liaquat Bazaar, Joint Road, Saryab Road, Alamdar Road, Hazara Town, Marriabad, Abdul Sattar Road and Zarghoon Road remained closed. Traffic remained thin and all roads and streets wore a deserted look. However, government offices and educational institutions opened as usual.
