(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Activists have obtained a copy of a letter signed from the Saudi Media Ministry to all news outlets, which strictly bans them from focusing on a story about a poor man who had to sell his son.
The man, identified as Saud bin Nasser Al Shahry, reportedly attempted to sell his son on Facebook for the bargain price of USD 20 million.
Al Shahry reportedly resorted to child trafficking so that he, his wife and daughter could escape from "living in poverty."
Saudi activists say despite official figures, poverty soars in the Persian Gulf powerhouse, where over 60 percent of the people do not own a house.
The government harshly clamps down on those who try to expose poverty in the country.
Several activists were arrested a few months ago after making a short documentary on the issue.
